Thanks. Will do. I don't see any great need to change the macro itself. It's not the only macro in MVS where you need to specify something that could possibly be inferred instead. There is something to be said for consistent defaults, even when the default for X= could have been made dependent on the value specified for Y=. Certainly easier to implement.
In answer to your other question (and keeping it on this main thread) yes, I am pretty confident I want/need COMMON rather than SHARED. I would be happy to explain the application off-line.
