I knew someone who dealt with this by issuing an (almost) no-op SVC
to force re-dispatch.  IIRC, he used CHAP.

(Almost) every language needs a no-op.  But does the programmer
get to select the side effects.  POSIX shell has ":" which has the
(sometimes desirable) side effect of setting RC to 0, and it evaluates
its arguments then ignores them.
