Forgive me but my first question would be do you really need more than 8 FICON channels to the DASD box. Depending on the CEC and the channel speed, 8 FICON channels can handle a lot of workload.
If the answer is yes, then look at some type of logical split of the box. Assign some CUs to some of the channels and assign others to different channels. As an example if you have 16 CUs assign 8 CUs to 8 of the channels and then assign the other 8 CUs to the remaining 8 channels. Thanks..
