I also used the superzap technique many years ago, but why go to all that work?

If the dataset is on dasd and not cataloged DEL NVR/VVR (as required).
If the dataset is cataloged on a volume that no longer exists DEL NSCR

After doing the DEL NOSCR that other people have mentioned, I'm fairly sure the 
way we used to get rid of such a dataset itself was to zap the VTOC changing 
the VOTC entries to suggest the file was an ordinary sequential file, then we 
did a normal delete.

Is that sort of thing no longer possible?
