6.4 ES/9000 Remote Console
The ES/9000 remote console consists of a display, a keyboard, and a system unit. The remote console can be used either of two ways: ° As a local-area-network (LAN-attached) remote console, which can be connected through an IBM Token-Ring adapter, OR ° As a switched communication-line-attached remote console, which can be anywhere that a synchronous data link control (SDLC) communication line exists. 6.4.1 Requirements Note: The following information refers to IBM products. You may choose equivalent products in place of those made by IBM. Remote Console: The recommended remote console is: &ballot. IBM PS/2 Model 55 SX (or higher), OR &ballot. IBM PS/55 Model 5551 T (or higher), if using a double-byte character set (DBCS) The remote console must have: ° 1.44MB diskette drive ° 4MB main memory minimum; 8MB for DBCS Note: With 4MB of main memory, the DOS box may need to be disabled on your system to allow the remote console application to run.
