I knew John from my involvement with SHARE assembler committee, and through work with IBM's Federal Systems Division in the 1980s. He was a true gentleman, always kind, very smart, and an absolute pleasure to work with. I was delighted to have been able to chat with him (for the first time in years) at SHARE in Providence last year. He seemed very at peace.
