One thing I've noticed over the years is how a Company will "hide" their Mainframe hardware.
The Hardware for me now is in a unmarked Building that looks like a bunker (I'm
told). Pretty bad that the location is in my town, however the address is NOT
circulated. The first installation that I worked at, it was well known where
the data center was. It was no issue to walk into Operations and tour new
equipment or talk to operators. Now, forget it.
The very same rules apply for any other hardware. It's not paltform
specific.
BTW: the address of datacenter is "gray zone". It is neither secret nor
public.
Youd don't publish the address in the press, you won't answer it to
journalist's question.
However a lot of people know this address. All vendors' CE's have to
enter inside. All deliveries have to be delivered. All security folks
know where they work. All of the people are not your people and in fact
you have no legal method to prevent them from disclosing the information.
But, again, it is completely not platform specific.
