We are looking at upgrading from z/VM 4.3 to supported z/VM 5.1.
Because z/VM 5.1 will not run on our 9672-x27, we will have to upgrade
boxes first. We need to choose a new box based on what capacity we
will be needing. We are aware of several changes to z/VM between
versions (i.e. 64 bit capability). Has anyone noticed any CPU
utilization increases related to the migration? If so, how much?
Thanks in advance, Tim

I would suggest z/VM 5.2 instead of 5.1. It is the release that
graduates cp to being a true 64-bit system. If your machine is loaded -
big guests with lots of I/O, I would expect cpu usage to go down for the
same load because of the lack of thrashing pages between above and below
the 2G line. It takes a lot of cp overhead to move pages back and forth
at rates of millions of pages per minute.
