Caleb, You actually do want the rc=108 message, not PIPE's return code. The design of CP is wonderful: the return code *is* the CP message number. If you have a running VM system, enter: HELP MSG HCP108E. Otherwise look up HCP108E in the CP Messages and Codes manual.
Basically, it means that the ID from which you are running VMINST executed the command: cp link avsvm 191 802 wr. but that ID is authorized for the requested LINK (WR). WR Write link. A write link is established unless another user has an existing link (any mode) to the disk. If the write link is denied, a read link is established unless another user has an existing exclusive mode link for the disk. When you say your are "Doing a First level installation." are you 100% certain? If you had a running VM system and are installing from a separate ID you defined on that system, then you are actually performing a 2nd level installation. BTW, you cannot start a "2nd level installation" from one system and complete it on a different system (should that info be of any help). A true 1st level installation means that you are running on the bare metal with no other VM system being used for the installation. Is that the case? If so, was there ANY other error before this one?
