Title: One last question, before aiming at my foot...

If my math’s correct, If your 520RES is a mod9 I think XLINK FORMAT records will occupy at least 20 tracks to map the 10017 cyls. 15 tracks per cyl means the map is on cyls 0 thru 1.

Subject: One last question, before aiming at my foot...

What is the layout of Cylinder zero on the 520RES pack? What tracks contain SAL, and are there other tracks reserved there? Are there any unforeseen issues with having the 520RES appear as an XLINK shared volume?

XLINK FORMAT defaults to track 2 in cyl 0, which would probably work for every other drive, but I'm unsure about the fit for 520RES. Any hints, opinions, or outright reasons for not protecting links on 520RES? (We do share a single 520RES between two systems now, so link protection is something we'd like to implement for it….)
