Enthusiasts will be held on Thursday, January 25, 2007.
The Final Agenda is included below.
----------
Meeting Location:
This quarter's meeting will be held at the Hewitt Associates 'East
Campus' located at 100 Half Day Road, in Lincolnshire, IL. We will

additional information on directions, maps, lodging and dining.
----------
Attendance:
We would like to request a count of expected attendees by the Monday
before the meeting, so that we may plan appropriately for arranging
the facilities, and for refreshments and lunch, should one of the
vendors wish to provide them. If you are planning to attend, PLEASE
send an E-Mail by that date to
<mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]>[EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject line of
"Meeting Attendance".
This is meant to be a facilities planning aid and should not be
interpreted as a registration requirement. If you suddenly become
available at the last minute, please feel free to attend even if you
have not responded.
Thank you in advance for your cooperation in this matter.

Final Meeting Agenda:
9:00 AM Help! My (Virtual) Penguin is Sick!
So you've gotten Linux on the mainframe up and running, and perhaps
even have some production Linux guests. But one of them isn't
responding, or at least, someone says it isn't. What do you do now?
This session is designed for the VM system programmer or Linux
administrator who must diagnose such problems. It will define and
understand ways Linux can get sick, show techniques to decide what is
wrong, and discuss how to gather debugging information for your
supporting vendor (if any), the application owner, or just because
you think you should gather some information before recycling the guest!
The speaker will be Mr. Phil Smith III of Velocity Software.
10:30 AM Coffee Break
11:00 AM Linux Performance Management on z/VM
Managing Linux on System z requires tools for capacity planning,
performance analysis, chargeback, and operational support. This
presentation discusses the evolution of z/Linux performance
management, including strengths and weakenesses of various
measurement infrastructure technologies; presents the Velocity
Software solution; and discusses some common performance problems and cures.
The speaker will be Mr. Phil Smith III of Velocity Software.
12:30 PM Lunch Break
*** NOTE ***
There will be an informal meeting during lunch to
discuss and finalize plans for the following:
* Feedback Form - To be used at each meeting
* Survey Form - To be used at the April meeting (and probably on
an annual basis thereafter)
* Raffle plans - Changes in how we conduct the raffle at each
meeting - (with possible interaction with the Feedback Form)
Anyone interested may participate. A separate table
in the dining area will be set aside for this group.
If the business at hand cannot be completed during
the luncheon period, the informal meeting may continue at a nearby
restaurant and watering hole after the
formal meeting. That location will be designated at
the formal meeting. If you are interested in participating, please
plan to set aside time after the formal meeting for this.
1:30 PM Administration and Vendor Announcements
2:00 PM System Management on z/VM
As more customers discover the benefits of z/VM virtualization
technology and begin to deploy tens to hundreds virtual images, they
will need ways to easily manage their systems. This presentation
gives a general overview of the various systems management options
available on z/VM today, including systems management enhancements
for z/VM's newest release.
The speaker will be Ms. Xenia Tkatschow of the IBM Corporation.
3:15 PM Coffee Break and Prize Drawing
During the afternoon break there will be a raffle for prizes provided
by IBM and other vendors. Please remember to bring a business card or
reasonable facsimile to enter. To enter and win, you must be present.
3:30 PM z/VM Resource Manager
The Virtual Machine Resource Manager (VMRM) provides functions to
dynamically tune a z/VM system. This presentation discusses how the
VMRM Service Virtual Machine can create a form of group scheduling by
managing virtual machines into groups, or workloads, and how
performance parameters are adjusted when there is contention for
certain system resources. Learn about the latest enhancements and how
you can use VMRM to help manage your z/VM system.
The speaker will be Ms. Xenia Tkatschow of the IBM Corporation.
4:45 PM Free-for-All
Members will attempt to answer any reasonable VM or hardware related
questions. If you are having a problem and want to find out if others
are experiencing it, or you are installing new hardware or software
and want to find out what types of problems others have experienced,
here is the place to find out.
Members are encouraged to bring ideas for future presentations and
speakers to this meeting.
