And while you can, I am not sure it is worth the trouble. What risks
are you trying to address when copying the disks to other volumes on
the same DASD subsystem. My understanding is that single volume
failure is unlikely, or would there be value in having the different
volumes in different banks?
If you want to protect against messing up the maintenance disks,
remember that you can simply restore DDR backups after the system has
been used for a while (because for example the directory is not
up-to-date anymore).
Switching between two copies of your SYSRES volume as a backout of
system changes is IMHO likely to give you more grief than protection.
You can set up the system so that you have a backout of your changes,
but DDR copies of system packs is probably not part of that setup.
