CMS knows about the formatted section of the disk, as Alan explained
above. However, don't get cocooned into thinking that CMS knows
everything. It certainly doesn't know that you made an error. If you
went to reformat that disk with CMS's FORMAT command, you would have
destroyed not only the intended portion (in your case 120 cylinders) but
all 158 cylinders that you defined as a size. That means that you would
have reformatted the first 38 cylinders of a minidisk that follows MAINT
CF1 (which is probably MAINT CF2) and you would not know it until you
IPL that system and try to access the MAINT CF2 or do QUERY CPDISK and
see that MAINT CF2 is not on the list. So, in this respect, you *were*
lucky.
