Are you saying the traffic between z/OS and your DNS server are passing over 
the same OSA(s)?  That is, the traffic is not going out to a physical switch 
and then back into the CEC?  If so, then I'm guessing that the problem is 
because z/OS "doesn't do" Layer 2.
