It's pretty much the same procedure.  Use the steps outlined in Procedure 
A of chapter 4 in the MVS Diagnosis: Tools and Service Aids book (
http://publibz.boulder.ibm.com/epubs/pdf/iea2v191.pdf), as they 
specifically mention it for the VM environment.

Though, I would
1. #CP SET RUN OFF
2. #CP  (or PA1) to stop the virtual machine
3. #CP D PSW
4. #CP STORE STATUS
5. #CP IPL vaddr LOADPARM whatever
6. #CP SYSTEM CLEAR
7. Restart the MVS system

This sequence ensures that the register display and status are consistent 
with the dump.
