Cross-posted to LINUX-390 and IBMVM Hello everyone,
We are pleased to announce a new paper and associated tar file on system sharing with a read-only root file system. The PDF and tar files are available on the top of the page: http://linuxvm.org/present/ The differences between this and the previous paper are as follow: -) Linux is based on Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 5.3. -) No modified initialization script is necessary because RHEL’s /etc/rc.d/rc.sysinit allows for read-only root file systems (using the "readonlyroot" command line parameter). -) All read-write file systems on a read-only root system are maintained under /local/. In the previous papers, /var/ was its own minidisk. Thanks to many who helped make this paper possible including Carlos Ordonez, Marian Gasparovic, Nick Wang, Christan Paro from IBM and Mark Post from Novell. -Mike MacIsaac, IBM -Brad Hinson, Red Hat
