I have been asked (cut-and-paste from orig. note), "Is there any drawback to having the Crypto engines active on a processor even if they won't be used there?" This was in relation to a z10 that will be installed in January. Being as naive in the care and feeding of the Crypto facilities as the one who asked the question, I thought it best to ask those who might know the answer or, at least, the questions that I should ask in return. My first guess is that if a crypto card is installed but unused, it will not have a deleterious affect on the performance of the system, but will affect the pocketbook.
