Thanks, that makes sense. Does CP then time-out display of the
information? Because after watching this awhile, the ip address was
filled in and not filled in on various display commands for the same
virtual machine.

It is the difference that I am asking about.
More research: In layer 2, CP will watch for the gratuitous ARP response
that a guest emits when it brings up its interface and will display that
on QUERY VSWITCH.
