It depends on how you start z/VM

   - With a SHUTDOWN REIPL or an IPL after a CP abend (does that still
   happen???), CP uses the IPLPARMS
   - If you use the HMC (or SE) to "load" z/VM into the LPAR, the start is
the contents of the LOADPARM field of the HMC. If that contains. For
   example:
   - "CONSxxxx", you explicitely ask to start CP with xxxx as console
      - "xxxx" you request that SAPL is started on xxxx
      - "blank", SAPL does not display a panel, but loads CP with the
defaults IPLPARMS set when SAPL was written. You can see these
defaults by
starting SAPL. For example (with a "standard" VM setup):
      - Logon to MAINT
         - DETACH 122-130
         - LINK * 123 123 RR <-- assure CP resident is R/O
         - Q V CONS <-- get address of virt console (often
         0009)
         - SYSTEM RESET <-- kill CMS
         - TERM CONMODE 3270
         - IPL 123 LOADPARM vvvvv (e.g. 0009)
To change the SAPL default parameters, use SALIPL (or Mike Walter's
MKSALIPL EXEC), SALIPL lives on MAINT 193.
