You can just go to HMC and do a PCHID reassign from bad one to a good one in same or in another Escon Card.

Hello Everyone,
I am interested in knowing how to configure a "spare" ESCON channel to our
DASD so that if one of the existing eight shared channels goes belly-up
(like it did last week) we can just move the cable over and not have to
POR.

I'm currently looking in the "System z Input/Output Configuration Program
User's Guide for ICP IOCP" but I'm not sure what to look for. I keep
getting this error when trying to add another channel:

The error message states: "IOCP expected a right parentheses as the first
character of string xxxxxxxx. This error can occur if a keyword value
contains too many characters or if more parameters than your CPC supports
were specified."

Is it possible to configure a spare channel for redundancy?

Thanks for the help.
