The timer can be set up to 32767 seconds. You probably don't want to go that high in practice, you'll be waiting over 9 hours for a machine to just be logged off.
Set the timer for normal shutdown times with some extra. If they fail to terminate cleanly, investigate the cause and resolve the problem.
