some people here call it "seal bay". I like solon cause to me he is a comedian :) I was thinking yesterday... we have friends who have a 32 year old walking horse they have had since he was a yearling and now he is like my Gallant Boy, he is too thin and they cant get weight on him. My husband feeds for them when they travel which is often. My husband is aggravated because they went away for 2 weeks and came back and said it looked he had lost even more weight and kept sorta pressuring my husband to try and figure if he wasnt feeding them the correct way etc. It hurt his feelings and he said "why cant they just accept like we do that the horse is old and at the end of his life and let go!" and I said "because we are not talking Gallant Boy to us. Shadow for them is their Traveller, their Nasi, their Stonewall... a horse they raised from a baby and have had all its life. " we didnt get GB until he was old and dying. this is much different."
anyway, I was thinking how special these are, the ones you raised yourself. How they have issues and you know exactly where they came from, you dont have to guess. How they can be bad and you think well, I must have gave him the wrong idea... how they KNOW you and you KNOW them.... Stonewall is my first baby that I raised myself from a baby. I will never forget the thrill of that day when i first sat on him after almost three years of long walks and groundtraining and just hanging out. no one was around, and I just slipped my leg over and sorta wiggled and made a kiss sound like I had done so many times from the ground and he just started casually walking like he had been doing it for years :) I just wish now I had waited and started him at age 5 instead of 3. He is 6 now and his maturity level is still sorta goofy! but he is my Walls :) janice -- yipie tie yie yo
