Just to be fair, though, we should point out that, up until maybe two years
ago, it was against FEIF rules to use a dropped noseband with a shanked
Icelandic bit.   So, it's not exactly innovativeor humane  for someone to
show up without a dropped noseband...IF they are using a shanked bit.    A
broken mouthed shanked bit is quite severe, even if used with NO noseband.


Just for comparison I looked up the current international dressage rules
(FEI) about bits and nosebands:

28-31 describe and illustrate what bits are allowed, and which ones aren't.
You will notice that none of the allowed curb bits have a broken mouthpiece,
and that it's expressly forbidden to use a dropped noseband with a curb bit.
Also, note the length is limited for curb bits.
