Good Morning America just had some segment on right now about pets. I
missed the first part, but I assume it's aimed at the novices who got pets
for Christmas. I walked in just in time to hear the not-so-sage advice,
"Keep your pets indoors." The misguided "expert" says it's a good way to
save on vet bills, keep your pet from being run over by a car or to keep
them safe from other animals. She says something like "too many owners have
a misguided feeling that animals like to be outside..."

Egads...is there no such thing as MODERATION in this world? I can supervise
my pets and still let them outside - I expect even city dwellers can learn
how to do that in some appropriate way.

Has this expert never heard about leashes, fenced backyards, visits to the
country...? Does she not realize that there are a few people in this
country who actually live outside Manhattan?

And my god, if ALL pets had to be kept indoors, how many people would be
able to take in multiple dogs and cats from unfortunate situations? Right
now, every one of my dogs and cats were either strays or throwaways. And,
as much as I love animals, no way could I cope with four dogs and 10 cats in
the house 24x7, along with the four parrots. I guess we should let the
unwanted pets just die on the streets while we pamper our latest
Paris-Britney-inspired designer fashion accessory.

Do city dogs never pee and poop? How big is an average NYC apartment?

I need to get outside - I've been cooped up too long. Hopefully we have a
break in the weather today before the next rain comes in.
