Although every one of the foster children we have cared for has been acutely 
disabled, my mom and dad used to take in typically developing kids.  Of 
course, none was exactly "typical".   My mom felt if she could give them a 
very short dose of nuturing, love  and normal family life that perhaps they 
would carry that memory into their future.
