Hello, My office currently runs some Nagios servers, but I am looking at upgrading our existing Nagios solution or switching from Nagios to Icinga.
Is it possible to "cluster" the Icinga-Core up to work together on the list at hand or will I instead have to divide it up, so one server checks network, one server checks production servers and the last checks lab&dev servers? (We currently have 900+ switches, 700+ hosts with a total of 20 000 service checks) My idea of the design was to put up the 3 workers with their dedicated Area's with NDOMOD / IDOMOD to a common MySQL cluster and present the information either through NagVis or also use NSCA to present it on a 4th frontend server which has many dummy checks. For parenting to work properly, would I need to configure dummy checks for parenting on the frontend, to work properly on the different hostchecks on all hosts or just the frontend? We also use email/pager functionality, so having parenting is a MUST for us to achieve. Can I use the fancy Icinga Web frontend to issue commands via the API to the respective "workers", or will that then be taken care of by the frontend server?
