the ideas that come from such discussions even if we don't necessarily act
on them all.
Michael's concern is that this was a question related to a commercial
interest. As you no doubt noted, he is strongly against even a hint of such
things.
To answer your question; no, that is not currently how it works in either
the Classic UI or icinga-web. The general consensus is that if there is a
problem it shouldn't be hidden under layers of complexity that you then
have to drill down to get to. In fact, much of what we try to do is to have
important problems bubble up to the top as best we can.
If you can think of a way to have it both ways at the same time, I'm all
ears.
That said, Hostgroups are not layers, they are collections of hosts.
It might be possible for you to come up with some fancy configuration with
some combination of dependencies to represent something more layer-ish,
perhaps even using Nagvis for some visualization of your idea, albeit
roughly, but it would be quite a feat and I'm not sure the effort would be
worth it.
