Oh how the furies must mock us mortal beings. Oh how they must laugh at the
sight of our athletic endeavors. Only in the pursuit of fun would we humans
decide to tempt fate and skim, barely clothed, across the surface of an ice
cold pond. Only in the pursuit of happiness would we subject ourselves to the
gasps and shivers that result from one poorly executed gybe. While todays
competitors were graced with clear skies and warm temperatures, the pristine
landscape was merely being used to conceal natures true intentions. The wind
is not visible to the naked eye; however, its effects can not only be seen but
also felt as a capsizing vessels crew is hurled into the frigid abyss. While
few sailors walked away from todays races without first-hand knowledge of the
temperature of Upper Mystic Lake, I doubt that anyone left without at least
cracking a smile. For even with the brief moments of hypothermic delirium, we
would all be hard pressed to find a better way to spend !
a Sunday afternoon.

(Tufts 05), our judges, and to Assistant Coach Garth (USF 04?), our master of
repairs and on-water rescues.
