Princeton University is seeking a Head Coach for its Coed and Women's sailing teams with the vision, ambition and ability to transform Princeton's club sailing program to one of regional and national competitiveness. The position will start at the beginning of September 2006.
The Princeton University Sailing Team was founded in 1928 and currently has a fleet of 12 FJs sailed out of Raritan Yacht Club in Perth Amboy, NJ. RESPONSIBILITIES: - Coach on and off the water at weekday practices, weekend regattas, and weekly on-campus team meetings through knowledge of the sport, coaching strategies and player development. - Identify and successfully recruit student athletes adhering tothe Ivy League philosophy of no athletic grants-in-aid and within the framework of University guidelines and policies. - Coordinate logistics (including transportation and lodging) for all practices, regattas, and team meetings. - Manage boat maintenance and repair, including fleet transportation to and from summer and winter storage facilities. - Coordinate team and alumni communications including semiannual alumni newsletters, weekly email news briefs, and the team website. - Take a leadership role in team and alumni fundraising strategy development and execution. - Work within the Department of Athletics to coordinate effectively with administrative and support staff and other coaches and programs. Essential Qualifications - Baccalaureate or advanced degree - US Sailing Level 2 Instructor certification and successful background in coaching sailing, with strong preference given to US Sailing Level 3 Instructor certification or above and/or previous experience coaching sailing at the collegiate level. - Competitive sailing experience at the collegiate, Olympic, international armature and/or professional level. - Demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to manage team dynamics. - Good oral and written communication skills. - Demonstrated organizational ability. - Current CPR & First Aid certification. - Valid driver's license.
