Great idea!
We give all the competitors at our regattas a free T shirt and a free lunch
on Saturday. Do you think we can afford it? No way. But we have always been
able to find a sponsor to pick up the whole tab in return for our hanging a
banner at school and at the Sailing Center giving them credit and adding the
sponsor's name to the sleeve of the T shirts. And, they love getting a couple
shirts for themselves to remind friends of their generosity.
Roy Wilkins at Ocean County has had tremendous success with sponsorship of
food and shirts for regattas as well.
This year we may even have more sponsors than we have regattas to host. I'd
bet that for the club team with a modest schedule, you might even find some
one or some business who would love to be "The Official Sponsor of the Dog
Patch University Sailing Team." How would that look at the bottom of some car
dealer's ad?
I'm feeling a bit foolish for not having thought of this for pinnies as well.
