                                                       September 23-24, 2006

REGATTA HIGHLIGHTS: On Saturday, 20 races, modified triangles and
windward-leewards, were held in S-SW winds, which ranged from 9 - 18 knots and
gusts to
22. Sunday was more of the same with higher gusts but racing was called at
11:00 AM as a Memorial Service for a deceased member of the club was scheduled
to
start on the waterfront at noon. As usual at our regattas, sailors were
treated to OJ plus H&H Bagels and cream cheese each morning; Clam Chowder and
Italian bread from the Shrimp Box on City Island at lunchtime on Saturday, and
Zagat's rated "#1 Cheesecake in NYC" from S&S Bakery in the Bronx at the
conclusion
of racing on Sunday. One mishap occurred when one of the Notre Dame sailors
was hit hard by a boom on Saturday afternoon. Everyone thought that his jaw was
broken because he was unable to move it. The team took him to the hospital
and as a result ND missed 12 of the 24 races sailed, but he returned Sunday
morning able to speak; eat cheesecake and sail in the last two races.

The Jesuit School Intersectional, formerly the Jesuit Cup Regatta, began in
1955 and was held once or twice a year through 1971. After a hiatus of 30
years, it was resurrected in 2002 after the original "Cup" was found in the
attic
of a Fordham alumnus. It had been there for 27 years. The "Cup" with the names
of the winners is on permanent display at the Vincent T. Lombardi Memorial C
enter on the Rose Hill campus of Fordham University. An annual "on-loan" plaque
is presented to the winner each year.

Special thanks go to alumni John Good '58, who provided his 45' Hunter as
Race Committee boat, and John McAndrews '71, who provided his smaller boat as
a
safety boat for two days, as well as to Assistant Coach Charles "Bud" McEntee
'72, former MAISA Undergraduate President, and the Fordham sailors, who
worked tirelessly both on and off the water to make this a successful event.
