Mosbacher-Knapp 2006
Princeton University
October 7-8, 2006
Saturday, October 7, 2006
The winds were about 15 knots with a few gusts up to 20, until 2 pm
when the wind dropped down to about 10 knots. Winds started NNE in
the morning and slowly clocked right, becoming E by the end of the
day. Temperatures were in the 50s and rose up into the mid 60s by
afternoon when the sun began to break through the clouds. High tide
came at about 8 am and the current reached its max push out of the
Raritan and Arthur Kill rivers around noon time. 6 A division and 4 B
division races were sailed south of the Raritan Yacht Club on
modified windward-leeward and gold cup courses with racing ending at
4:30 pm. There was one protest heard between Brown and Cornell,
resulting in a disqualification for Cornell in race 4A.
Sunday, October 8, 2006
The day began with light and variable winds from the NNE up to 4
knots with sunny skies and temperatures in the 60s rising into the
mid 70s by afternoon. In race 6B the sea breeze filled in from the
SSE and with a small mark adjustment the race continued on the
windward-leeward course. The sea breeze remained light (3-4 knots)
through the A division set and filled in to 5-7 knots for the last
two B division races. Racing concluded at 2 pm with one rotation
complete. All racing on day two was on windward-leeward courses and
no protests were filed.
We would like to thank the Raritan Yacht Club for letting us use
their Race Committee boat and club Whaler for the regatta, and for
providing all the competitor’s with hot soup at lunch on Saturday.
We’d also like to thank Vicky Neiner, Mike Carr, Don King, and Gary
Kapshck, who donated both their time and boats to the event helping
out with Race Committee, moving marks, and running a coach boat, as
well as Jeff Jacoby, Sandy Huntsman, Tom Sollas, and Woody Woodie,
who constituted the jury for the event. Our coach, Eric Leitner was
PRO. Finally, a thanks to anyone I may have forgotten and all the
Princeton sailors that came to help run the event.
