                        RWU POSITION DESCRIPTION

 

 

              Head Sailing Coach & Waterfront Coordinator

 

The head sailing coach coordinates all aspects of a college program
including coaching, teaching, practice and game preparation, recruiting,
supervision of assistant coaches, alumni relations, fundraising, and
administrative duties. In addition, the individual will oversee a
comprehensive waterfront program which includes, but not limited to
recreational kayaking and learn-to-sail programs.

 

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

 

Coaching

Coordinate all aspects of the varsity sailing program including:

1. Coaching and teaching student-athletes in both competitive and
practice situations.

2. Recruiting talented and qualified student-athletes to sail. Recruit
nationally. Maintain and/or raise standards used to select students.

3. Attend designated department and conference meetings.

4. Supervise assistant coaches.

5. Serve as liaison for alumni relations and the fundraising efforts for
the sailing program.

6. Perform administrative duties and work closely with Department of
Athletics support personnel

 

Administrative

1. Develop waterfront programs for the university and outer community
which add to quality of life on campus, increases educational           
opportunities for nontraditional learning, self esteem, and student
retention.

2. Implement “learn to sail” programs and other waterfront activities
for students, faculty and staff, ultimately improving participation in
and appreciation for the sport.

3. Expand community involvement and build community ties by implementing
community sailing programs and increase awareness of sailing programs
offered at the University.

4. Develop and manage a boat donation program with efforts to increase
donations each year from prior year donations.

5. Work with Development with program and other fundraising initiatives
to accomplish set fundraising goals.

6. Using collaborative relationship building skills increases the
University’s visibility on a regional and national level.

7. Recruits nationally. Maintain and/or raise standards used to select
students.

8. Achieve the goals of the division by creating more and greater
opportunities for student development and activity out of the classroom.

 

 

PREREQUISITE QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelors Degree required

A minimum of 2-4 years of sailing coaching and/or instruction
experience.

USSAILING CERTIFICATION, motor boat license, CPR/FIRST AID

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience as a sailing coach at the college level preferred.

Achievement of or studies toward a Master’s Degree preferred.

At the university’s discretion, the education and experience
prerequisites may be excepted where the candidate can demonstrate, to
the satisfaction of the university, an equivalent combination of
education and experience specifically preparing the candidate for
success in the position.
