Dear Sailors and Coaches,
Now that the fall college sailing season is underway, and we are back into the routine of practice and weekend regattas, I have a few items for to think about. First, please insure that all members of your team are properly registered with the ICSA. This can be done at http://www.collegesailing.org/directory/individual/. This is an important step in tracking and maintaining eligibility. Conferences may have additional requirements. Secondly, the continued growth and success of the Intercollegiate Sailing Association has been tremendously supported by the ICSA national sponsors. There are many marine retailers, manufactures, and vendors out for your business; all offering "college discounts". Please remember our sponsors when placing your orders. Gill, APS, Pentax, Vanguard Sailboats, Sail1design.com, GTS Photos, and Quantum Sail Design Group, all directly provide financial support for the activities of the ICSA. The ICSA counts on the support of our sponsors, and in turn our sponsors count our support. Speaking of Pentax, it is time to start sending me your very best photos for the Pentax Pictures of the Day feature on www.Collegesailing.org. With the season underway, I will be updating these regularly. For the eighteen teams from the 2007 ICSA / Gill Dinghy Championships that received the free waterproof digital camera from Pentax, this should be easy. I expect to get some great on-the-water action shots from the Pentax cameras. Other cameras may be used too And finally, share your enthusiasm for sailing with your campus community. Host a Sailapalooza event this fall. The goal of Sailapalooza is to utilize College Sailing teams, boats, facilities, and collegiate energy to introduce as many people to the sport of sailing as possible. In the process, build campus awareness for the sailing team or club, foster community and campus relations, and recruit new team members if you need them. The schools that participated last year had a great time. It was a huge success with college sailors introducing hundreds of people to sailing. Let me know how it turns out this year, and send me a photo. I will put the best photos up on the Pentax Pictures of the Day. I look forward to seeing you on the water!
