SEISA Sloop Championship September 22, 2007 Fort Worth Boat Club Ft. Worth, TX It took a morning full of waiting, homework, football, and laying about to convince the wind to show up. A nice, easterly (a very strange direction for Ft. Worth) 6-10kt did fill in by 2 and racing got underway shortly thereafter. Courses were a 25-35 min W2 with some serious shifts and changes in velocity. There was a general trend toward the right during the day, with the final course angled about 30 degrees more to the south as the day went on. Starts were conservative (there were no over earlies) but the racing was close, with many finishes decided by half a boat-length or less. There were 2 protests, both between Texas and A&M Galveston; Galveston was disqualified from race 4 for tacking too close at the windward mark. Thanks to the Fort Worth Boat club staff for having the boats and lunch ready for everyone, Vice Commodore Karen Smith for helping to organize the event, her husband Mark for RC support, mark set, and protest committee, and J-22 fleet captain Finlay Higgins for organization and mark set. It was a good weekend and I look forward to having everyone back for Sloop Nationals in November.
