NWICSA Men's Singlehanded Championship

Saturday: Fourteen sailors from five schools, sailed 8 races averaging 22
minutes on 2 x W/L's. First four races sailed in a 10-14 kt southerly. Lunch
break at 1:30. Last four races of the day were sailed in a 10-12 kt southerly
that shifted to the east throughout the afternoon, with plenty of rain.
Sunday: A lot more rain and temps in the upper 50's made for a long day on Lake
Washington. Races started in a shifty 5-8 kt south-easterly. The wind shifted
way left and died to 3 kts, before it went way right and filled in again at
around 7 kts. The RC had their hands full calling off a few races that turned
into one-tack beats and resetting the course.
Racing was close and the regatta came down to the final beat. Congratulations
and good luck to Paul Stewart of the University of Washington who will
represent the district on his home waters here in Seattle. Big thanks to
Brendan Fahey UW '06, Hayley Siegenthaler UW '07 and Alex Jones UW '06 for
running the racing. And also to Sail Sand Point, LBC and Marine Service Center
for the use of all their lasers.
