It was a blustery day on the Chesapeake for the 9 teams competing for the 2007 Kennedy Cup Championship at Navy.
PRO Bruce Bingman ran 5 windward/leeward races in shifty northwesterly breeze that ranged between 10 and 25 knots. After the dust settled in the protest room, the scores from on-water racing remained unaltered. Navy continued to post low numbers while surviving two protests and finished the day with a 1,1,2,1,3 to take a 16 point lead into Sunday. California Maritime stepped up their game considerably from Friday posting a 2,2,1,5,1 to put themselves solidly into second position. The remaining teams each had moments of brilliance but could not maintain consistency whether it be sail handling or tactics in the shifty winds. Two races are scheduled for Sunday and the forecast looks to be for another excellent sailing day plus the bonus of an extra hour of sleep!
