FINAL RESULTS

ICSA Sloop National Championship
the Cornelius Shields Jr. Trophy
Fort Worth Boat Club
Ft. Worth, TX

One of the best ways to determine a true champion, is to test them in a
variety of conditions, this past weekend was one of those championships.
Friday was relatively cold (50), with winds in the high teens to low
twenty's, with several guts in the 25-30 range. Saturday was light, ten or
less, with only three quality races complted. And Sunday morning was even
lighter, a zero to five drifter, before filling back in to a very nice ten
to twelve. Winds were from the south between 150 and 190 for the whole
weekend (the normal direction fro Ft. Worth), it was also relatively puffy
(also normal), rather then well defined wind lines or regular oscillations
moving across the course.
It was a relatively clean regatta, with only 2 protests; a port/starboard
between Navy and Hawaii and an incident during the start of race 8 between
St. Mary's and BC (this decided the regatta). 1 redress was granted to St.
Mary's when their headstay broke on day 1 (The Boat Club thanks then for
their seamanship and ability to save the mast with no permanent damage) and
1 redress was denied to Navy, wanting race 8 thrown out on account of light
air.
Thanks to the FWBC for continuing their long tradition of quality racing
and hospitality, it's Commodore Karen Smith, PRO Herman van Beek, Board
Member Finlay Higgins, the jury of Bryan Dyer, Mark Smith, and Mike
Lattimore, ICSA Rep Charles Higgins, Glennon Stratton of GST Photos and the
club staff.

Please see GTS Photos for pictures form the event, including some excellent
wipeouts from Friday. www.gstphotos.com
