2008 Graham Hall/ John Jackson Team Race

US Naval Academy, Annapolis, MD

March 1-2

Day 1: Breeze on! The day started with a building WNW breeze which built
to 25 kts. There were some down phases which saw some good team racing but
the rest was boat-speed in big breeze. We completed 1 full round robin and
stopped as the breeze was steady over 30 kts. We had 8 umpires which braved
the cold windy conditions, a special thanks to those umpires Jeff Borland,
Molly Vandemoer, Christine Accutella, Dave Pyron, Matt Jones, Dobbs Davis,
Andrew Cole, and Brady. Also a big thanks to The Midshipman for some great
RC work in really tough conditions. Congratulations to MY Maritime for
winning the qualifying round. The top four teams will move to Georgetown
tomorrow to sail the top four from Georgetown's racing today. The teams
moving on are NY Maritime, Navy, St. Mary's, and Roger Williams.

Graham Hall was a famous coach here at Navy in the late 70's and 80's when
Navy won 7 Fowle trophies in a row, he passed away a few years ago and this
regatta is in his memory. Some alumni were on hand to watch the racing and
talk about Graham and his brother was around to congratulate all the
sailors. It was a fitting tribute to a Sailor, Friend and Mentor of College
sailing.
