To those of you in the team racing community:
This summer, East Greenwich Yacht Club will be hosting the 6th Annual CJ Buckley Team Race Regatta on Aug 4-5. This regatta was started in 2003 in celebration of our dear friend and teammate CJ Buckley, who lost his battle with brain cancer during the winter of 2002. The CJ Buckley TR presents club 420 sailors with a unique, BYOB team race event which features great racing and great fun. Team uniforms are strongly encouraged: last year's winning team, from Nantucket, were the Superheros! The idea is that any team with 3 boats traveling to BBR can then continue to East Greenwich, RI for two days of fun team racing. If you are coaching a club 420 team this summer, I'd strongly recommend trying to attend this event - there are a variety of levels, and 2-3 divisions (gold, silver, bronze) on Tuesday to keep the racing even and fun. And don't worry, if you're not going to BBR, you can still come. For those interested, parents in East Greenwich will provide housing for anyone who needs it, just let us know. For those of us lucky enough to sail with CJ, this is annually a terrific event and a favorite among the competitors, and it is very important to us that we can continue to remember our friend this way.
