Singlehanded Nationals wrapped up Sunday afternoon after a fruitful three
days of sailing.
Friday races started with a 18-20 knots of breeze out of the south.
Weather was cold, in the low 40s, and proved to be a drastic change for
sailings from the warmer areas of the country. Course was windward leeward
twice around with a gate above the starting line. Racing ended as the
breeze picked up around 4 p.m., with five races completed in each
division. Two protests were heard, resulting in one DSQ.
Saturday races started amidst rain, upper-40s weather and steady 10-12
knot breeze. The breeze continued steadily, and rain increased as the day
continued. Races were completed after the wind died, causing the 12th
radial race to be abandoned. Full rigs completed seven races, radials six.
Sunday proved the warmest and driest day of the weekend, with temperatures
in the high 50s and a clear sky. The breeze held steadily at 8-10 knots
for the day, and both fleets finished their rotation by 2 p.m.
First place in the full rig fleet was decided by a tiebreaker, with both
Cy Thompson from Roger Williams and Kyle Rogachenko from Old Dominion
scoring 75 points for the regatta. Thompson took first from the tiebreaker.
Congratulations to Annie Haeger from Boston College for the win in
radials, and Cy Thompson from Roger Williams University for first place in
full rigs.
