I wanted to publicly thank Ken Legler of Tufts University for his display of
sportsmanship this past weekend at the Friis/ Marchiando Team Race. The
College of Charleston had flight issues on Friday night and Saturday morning
and were unable to arrive at Medford Lake until after noon on Saturday. As
PRO, Ken totally modified the format of the regatta to accomidate the Cougars
and our regatta was saved as a result. We didn't miss a race and the sailing
was great.

An easier way for dealing with the situation would be to have the regatta go on
without us, resulting in C of C starting 0-6. That would have been fair, and
we would have accepted it. Instead, a new rotation was made and the regatta's
new format was announced at the competitor's meeting. The day became longer
for all and, of course, the rain turned to sleet late in the day as Ken buzzed
around Mystic Lake in his tin can motor boat. Ken's love for college sailing
was very evident, as was his commitment to giving all teams a fair shot.

Thanks to all of the competitors, coaches, and volunteers who dealt with the
longer day and adjusted format. It was great to see and it made our weekend.
