That is one of the most gracious displays of leadership that I have seen in
college sailing. It's refreshing to hear of a team that has gone past the goal
of success and showed great respect, selflessness and humility for our sport
and fellow competitors. Congrats to Brown's coaches and sailors for that.

> April 18th - 19th, 2009

> Saturday:
> First 4 races sailed in a fluky WNW breeze at 3-5 knots. An additional 10
> races sailed in what seemed like a building ESE breeze.Breeze maxed out at
> 11 knots before fading to less than three, forcing the abandonment of race
> 8A. All courses were windward/leeward twice around with offset and gate
> marks. No protests were filed. One Rule 42 infraction was flagged on the
> water.
>
> Sunday:
> 9 Additional races sailed in each division in much better conditions.
> Wind started out NE @ 16 knots before shifting to the ESE @ 10-14 knots.
> Extremely close racing. Congrats to BC, Roger Williams, Connecticut College,
> BU,
> Yale, Vermont, Harvard, and Tufts for qualifying for Nationals.
>
> Many thanks to all the teams who helped out, loaned equipment, and
> volunteered.
> Thanks also to our judges Peter Johns, Ted Greene, Kim Hapgood, and Kerry
> Sullivan.
> Special thanks to the BC Eagles.
>
> *At the conclusion of the NE Championships this past weekend, the
> Connecticut College team made clerical error in filling out the RP form. The
> imposition of the ICSA penalty moved Conn to ninth place and Brown into
> eighth in
> the final qualifying spot. In a tremendous display of sportsmanship the
> Brown team has declined the berth so that Conn can still attend the ICSA Coed
> Dinghy Championship Semi-finals. NEISA has decided that the results achieved
> by the teams on the water determine the seedings at the Semi-finals.
