Dear College Sailing,
As you may have heard, a new scoring program is being implemented by the ICSA. The program was painstakingly developed by former MIT sailing team member Dayan Paez '08. The program is web based and easy to use once you get the hang of it. It was used at both the ICSA Semi-Finals and the Coed and Women's National Championships. Because it is web based, results are available as they are scored in the program, live on the web, even accessible to hand-held mobile devices. The web address for the public viewing section is http://regatta.mit.edu . This will work in mobile devices with internet as well, so you can even get to the minute results on your blackberry or iphone. Hosts, remember that it is all live so people will really appreciate prompt entry of scores. To view results, you DO NOT need a login or password. Simply go to http://regatta.mit.edu (will also be linked on the ICSA homepage) and click on the regatta you'd like to view. To score a regatta in Techscore, you will need a login and password. This is easily obtained by going to http://techscore.mit.edu and following the simple instructions. Note however, that approval currently requires a human to verify your affiliation with ICSA, so register well before you plan to score an event (DO NOT REGISTER THE MORNING OF THE REGATTA!) Once you have the login, you can create your event, invite teams, set up rotations, enter RP info, and enter results into the program. While we want to encourage people to use and try the program, ONLY PEOPLE WHO ARE ACTUALLY GOING TO SCORE REGATTAS SHOULD GET A LOGIN. The soon to be released downloadable version will be available to all to use for personal regatta scoring. A few notes: -A SAILOR MUST BE REGISTERED WITH THE ICSA TO APPEAR ON THE RP DROP DOWN LIST. Please make sure your registration is current. You can easily see who is not registered in regatta results b/c there is an asterisk next to that sailor's name in regatta results. Please go to: http://www.collegesailing.org/directory/individual/ and follow the directions. -When using Techscore, it functions best in Mozilla firefox. If you need to use IE, make sure you accept the certificates even though IE warns you against it. -Don't worry, there is an "almost ready to release" version of Techscore that functions without internet. This would be for use at schools with no internet access at their sites or for scoring a practice, private use, etc. There will be more information when this version is released. Thank you for reading all the way to the bottom of this email. If you do have problems with the program or have suggestions on ways to improve it, you can email Dayan and the MIT Coaches at [email protected] . If you so correspond with Dayan, please start and end your comment or critique with "Thank you so much for all of your hard work and countless hours on this much needed improvement to the way the ICSA does business." He has spent a ton of time on this program that will be the foundation for a modern data management system for college sailing.
