2010 PCCSC Team Race Championship Stanford University
Day 1: We had a late start due to a planned boat parade to open up the port for 2010, so all the sailors had a sleep in and racing got started at noon. The breeze was a blustery SSW breeze from 5-18kts. It was a very shifty day with velocity going up and down. It was tough for the RC to keep up with the big shifts but none the less round 1 of the eight was completed and 9 races were sailed into round two. The forecast for tomorrow is for big wind 20-30 so hopefully we will get some sailing off.
Day 2: The days forecast looked interesting to say the least, it was calling for big breeze in the area of 30-50 mph. Well we didn't quite see that in Redwood creek but we saw just about everything else. The breeze ranged from 0-20 kts. and we saw four different wind directions and lots of hard rain, quite impressive. Despite the challenges of mother nature we did finish round 2 and got in a final four. The course was a tough one with big wind shifts making for some squed beats and runs. As the battle raged on throughout the day a solid top four group was made of Stanford, Hawaii, USC, and UCSB. Stanford needed just one win to clinch the title and got it against Hawaii in an exciting race. Hawaii then cliched second in a battle of a race against USC. Congrats to Stanford and hawaii for qualifying for ICSA nationals in Wisconsin.
A big thanks to the Stanford sailors and Mikey, a BC alum, for running races. Also, a big thanks to an awesome group of umpires, led by Bryan McDonald, who battled the cold and wind to dispense justice.
