Nine teams are on hand to contest the 2010 Kennedy Cup at the Naval Academy in Annapolis aboard Navy's fleet of new 44' MK2 sloops.
PRO Wayne Bretch got racing underway on time at 1230 and held three races just outside the mouth of the Severn River in a fresh northwesterly that ranged between 12 and 18 knots through the afternoon. Navy came from behind in race 1 for the win followed by Maine Maritime in second and Kings Point a close third. In race 2, Maine led wire to wire with excellent boat speed and smart course management. Navy again came from behind this time recovering to second and KP again finished 3rd. In race 3, KP led at every mark but the finish allowing Maine to slip by on the last beat of the 5 leg course for the win and wound up 2nd. Cal Maritime finally found their mojo and nailed a third. Navy's come from behind luck did not come through this time and they settled for 4th. So with two days and up to 7 races to go, Maine Maritime is on top with 4 points, Navy is in second with 7 and KP is one point back in third.
