The Penn Sailing Team is currently a Club sport at the University of
Pennsylvania. While we are not a varsity program, we still compete
against the top varsity and club programs from across the nation. Penn
is a member of the ICSA MAISA division (Mid-Atlantic Inter-collegiate
Sailing Association). Penn Sailing is the currently the highest ranked
club team in the Mid-Atlantic division having won the MAISA Club
Championships in 2009 and 2010. Additionally, we qualified for ICSA
Coed Nationals in 2008 and 2009, and ICSA Women’s Semi-nationals in
2009 and 2010.
Our sailing facilities are located at The Corinthian Yacht Club of
Philadelphia; a short drive from Penn's campus. Our fleet consists of
nine FJs. The team practices Monday through Thursday on the waters of
the Delaware River. Penn competes in both the Fall and Spring
collegiate sailing seasons and sails both sectional and intersectional
regattas. Our team consists of approximately 30 sailors of varying
skill levels.
Job Description
This job is a part time job with a stipend. It will require attending
and coaching practices, which occur Monday-Thursday 3:30-7:00. In
addition to practice, the job requires coaching approximately 4 major
regattas in addition to any coed and women’s championship regattas
during both the Fall and Spring seasons. Administrative issues will
continue to be dealt with by the sailors, however, the coach is
expected to supplement and advise student leadership. We are primarily
looking for someone who is dedicated to building our program so we can
continue to improve our success.
Preferred Qualifications
-Significant experience coaching and racing, preferably at the
collegiate level
-Strong knowledge of college sailing rules, and regulations
-Strong organizational and communication skills
