Dear College Sailors and Coaches,

The ICSA has been asked to send a representative team of to the 2011 World
University Games in Shenzhen, China, August 12-23.

The event is organized by FISU, the Federation Internationale du Sport
Universitaire (International University Sports Federation). Founded in 1949,
FISU's main responsibility is the supervision of both Summer and Winter
Universiades (World University Games) as well as the World University
Championships (WUC).

The Universiades (World University Games) is an international sporting and
cultural festival which is staged every two years in a different city and
which, according to their own literature, is second in importance only to
the Olympic Games. The 2011 World University Games will consist of
competition in 23 different sports. The Team USA delegation will consist of
over 400 athletes, coaches, and trainers. The World University Games are
open to all student athletes that have not been out of university or its
equivalent for more than a year and that are between 17 and 28 years old.

ICSA last sent representatives to the WUG in 2005 in the Laser and Laser
Radial Class. For the 2011 WUG, the sailing events consist of fleet race
and team race events as follows:
Individual event (2 boat max per country):
                - 470: men or women or mixed
                - Laser standard: men
                - Laser radial: women
                Team Racing Event:2 on 2 and 3 on 3.
                - Dinghy double: one team is made up of two boats (470 w/o
trap and spin. 4 competitors, at least 1 female)
                - Dinghy single: one team is made up of three boats (Radial.
3 competitors, at least 1 female)
                - windsurfing: one team is made up of three boards (Bic 293.
2 competitors, at least 1 female)
Boats and sails are provided for team race events.

ICSA has been offered a $3000.00 grant from the US Sailing Foundation to
send a team race team. The USSF grant will not support competing in the
individual events.

A team need not be from one university. My recommendation would be
fielding a 2 on 2 dinghy team.

Below is the per person cost structure from Team USA. If you or your team is
interested please let me know by May 7. I will be happy to pass along more
information. Here are some websites that provide some information.
