The 2011 Chix Only Team Race was a success! Ten teams competed in the 8thannual all-women’s regatta at the Harvard Sailing Center in Cambridge, MA on Saturday, August 13. After spending the morning waiting for wind, the chix were finally greeted by wind from the west, then from the east, then from the south! Despite the challenging conditions, over 60 races were completed.
Congratulations to the Green Bears for their impressive victory. The team of Becca Dellenbaugh, Steph Gagnon, Emily Dellenbaugh, Cecelia Strombeck, Charlotte Lipschitz, and Allyson Russell went 9-0 to win the coveted title. Complete results are attached. Many thanks to our fabulous race committee who spent their Saturday volunteering (while wearing bright pink shirts) and patiently adjusting the race course in response to shifting winds. Thank you Rob Hurd, Mark Rinaldi, Colin Santangelo, Will Ricketson, and Matty Cohen! Alexa Schuler and Joel Hannaman of the Rhode Island Team Race Association helped promote the event throughout the spring and summer! In addition, Reid Van Gorder created the rotation for the event. Thanks to the Harvard Sailing Center and MIT Sailing Pavilion for loaning their FJs for the event. The Chix Only Team Race was part of the U.S. Sailing Roadshow.
