Nine ICSA Sailors recently returned from competing in the 2011 World
University Games in Shenzhen, China. They were part of a USA delegation of
over 400 that competed in 17 sports.

Below is a report from team leader Perry Emsiek.

Being in China for the World University Games was an experience of a
lifetime and completely unforgettable. The production that was put on by
the city of Shenzhen was impressive and unreal. We are all eternally
grateful to have taken part in the World University Games where we were able
to meet so many great people from around the world. Although we are happy
to be back home, we will surely miss the Universiade Village and its
surroundings.

On the team race course, there were American teams sailing in both the 470s
and the Radials. The 2v2 470 team race team of Zeke Horowitz, Alyssa
Aitken, Scott Furnary, and Perry Emsiek sailed their way to the finals with
a record of 9-1. They fell to the Russians in the last race of the finals
and received the silver medal. The 3v3 Radial team race team consisted of
Elizabeth Barry, Colin Smith, and Fred Strammer. This team also had an
extremely successful regatta and triumphed by bring home the gold.

On the fleet racing side, Charlie Buckingham and Cameron Cullman represented
the USA in the Laser Standard class. After starting the regatta near the
bottom half of the fleet, both sailors worked hard to climb up the ranks.
By the end of the regatta, Charlie and Cam competed in the medal race to
finish the regatta in the top ten. Charlie placed 6th and Cam placed 8th,
respectively.

Congratulations to the USA sailors and their successes in China!
